Thursday morning (Feb. 19), with a slight chill in the air and bright blue skies, the Wharf Cat left its mooring to set out for Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Several members of Friends of the Wild Whoopers were on board with members of other organizations. A total of 71 Whooping Cranes were counted along with an abundance of other birds while on the cruise. It was a tremendous day. The entire Whooping Crane Festival at Port Aransas, Texas was both informative and enjoyable. (Click on photos to enlarge.)
