The following is a letter we recently received with a welcome donation.
Dear FOTWW,
I am so glad to be part of such a great cause. I hope the FOTWW’s logo patches and decals will be just the kick-off needed in order to get people to join up. FOTWW needs help to tell the story of the magnificent Whooping Crane, and bring awareness to the land it needs along its migration route.
I know that time is not on the side of the Whooping Cranes, with climate change, droughts that cause cities to draw even more waters from precious rivers, and fresh water and blue crabs all on the decline. But to just stop and throw up our hands and say what’s the use, nothing will change. Then the days of wild Whooping Cranes foraging for food in the marshy areas of Aransas Wildlife Refuge would be numbered. This would be like giving up on ourselves, and humanity.
Like the Canaries in a coal mine, all of our birds from Hummingbirds, to Eagles are all Canaries, held captive on this small planet we call home. They are telling us of our own demise if we do not start to turn things around.
Thank you FOTWW for taking on this cause, and may we forever hear the sounds of the Wild Whooping Cranes coming from the marshes of the Texas coast.
